SPIDERS - any member of the order Araneida, or Araneae, of the class Arachnida. Spiders differ from the insects, another arthropod group, in having eight legs rather than six and in having the body divided into two parts rather than three. The use of silk is highly developed among spiders. About 34,000 species have been described; the world's spider fauna outside northern Europe, Japan, and North America, however, has not been thoroughly collected and studied.

Spiders are predators, feeding almost entirely on other arthropods, especially insects. Many spiders that are active hunters and overpower their prey have a well-developed sense of touch or sight. Others construct silk snares, or webs, to capture prey, sometimes in larger numbers than can be consumed; webs, constructed instinctively, effectively trap flying insects. Many spiders are able to inject venom into their prey to kill it; others use silk to overpower prey.

SPIDER     An arachnid of which there are over 30,000 species. The body consists of a fused head and thorax (cephalo thorax) and a rear abdomen separated by a narrow waist. There are eight legs, up to eight eyes, and several pairs of spinnerets, which produce silk for making webs, cocoons, etc. Spiders prey mainly on insects, trapping them in their webs and killing them with poison-bearing fangs; in a few species the poison is harmful to man. HOUSEFLY - Musca domestica, a common insect of the family Muscidae - order Diptera. About 90 percent of all flies occurring in human habitations are houseflies. Once a major nuisance and hazard to public health in cities, houseflies are still a problem wherever decomposing organic waste and garbage are allowed to accumulate. The adult housefly is dull grey with dirty-yellowish areas on the abdomen and longitudinal lines on the thorax. Body size ranges from about 5 to 7 mm - 0.2 to 0.3 inch, and the conspicuous compound eyes have approximately 4,000 facets.

Because it has sponging or lapping mouthparts, the housefly cannot bite; a near relative, the stable fly, or Horse Fly, however, does bite. The housefly can walk on vertical window panes or hang upside down on a ceiling probably because of the surface-tension properties of a secretion produced by tiny glandular pads -  pulvilli,  beneath each claw on the feet.

The female deposits more than 100 slender whitish eggs - 0.8 to 1 mm long,  at a time, producing between about 600 and 1,000 eggs in her life. These eggs hatch in 12 to 24 hours. After several moults the dirty-whitish maggots or larvae are about 12 mm long, and transform into pupae. The adults, when developed, expand a pouch -  ptilinum, on the head and break off the end of the puparium to emerge.

Houseflies may carry on their feet millions of micro organisms that, in large enough quantity, can cause disease. Garbage, manure, and similar wastes that cannot be made inaccessible to flies can be treated with larvicidal drenches or dusts. Residual insecticidal sprays are effective against flies for several weeks; however, some houseflies have developed resistance to certain insecticides, such as DDT, once the most famous insecticide in the world.

Freddie Prinze Jnr and Leonardo Di Caprio were both up for Spiderman, but Tobey Maguire got the opportunity because he showed off with some Karate moves at the audition and had spent many months working out, and became quite buff; and he was also cheaper, like Kirsten Dunst. Good job she received lots of free designer clothing during the shoots, that she wore as she played the character Mary-Jane.

[ Mary-Jane is street slang for Marijuana.]

Maguire said he could also relate to being Spiderman as his life was very similar, he has had periods of being alone, had experience of great responsibility and made many sacrifices to become a big actor.

To get a perfect fitting Spiderman Suit, Maguire had to have computer scans to match his body perfectly.

Dunst and Maguire did go out for a while, but it was not real love; more of a publicity stunt.

In Spiderman2, he nearly missed out, as he had injured his back in a previous film.  Kirsten Dunst had lobbied for her boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal to replace Tobey. But Tobey, in true Spiderman fashion, bounced back in time, much to Miss Dunst's chagrin. He worked out , and ate over 3,000 calories everyday, to beef himself up.

June beetle larvae, called white grubs, are about 25 mm long and live in the soil. You know they are about, when you see you have mysterious bite marks - small red dots. You can also see small telltale black marks, on sheets and mattresses. Bedbugs also have a distinctive oily odor, that results from a secretion of scent from their stink glands. COCKROACHES - Dictyoptera - An order of insects comprising the cockroaches - suborder Blattaria) and the mantids - suborder Mantodea, occurring mainly in tropical regions. Cockroaches are oval and flattened in shape; some have a single well-developed pair of wings, folded back over the abdomen at rest, while in others the wings may be reduced or absent. They are usually found in forest litter, feeding on dead organic matter, but some species, e.g. the American cockroach - Periplaneta Americana, are major household pests, scavenging on starchy foods, fruits, etc. In most species the females produce capsules - the (oothecae containing 16 - 40 eggs. These are either deposited or carried by the female during incubation.
The human papilloma virus - HPV, causes several different types of warts, which are the most common type of skin infection. In some cases, the HPV virus dies within 1 or 2 years, and warts simply disappear. Verrucas, also called Warts, well-defined small growth of varying shape on the skin surface, caused by a virus. The wart is composed of an abnormal proliferation of cells of the epidermis; the overproduction of these cells is caused by the viral infection. The most common type of wart is a round, raised lesion having a dry and rough surface; flat or threadlike lesions are also seen. Warts are usually painless, except for those in pressure areas, such as the plantar warts, or Verrucas, that occur on the sole of the foot. They may occur as isolated lesions or grow profusely, especially in moist regions of the body surface. Clostridium Difficile, is now recognized as the chief cause of HAI - Diarrhea in the US and Europe, and not only in hospitals but also in nursing homes and other facilities for long term care. Initial recognition of this disease began in the 1970s, with reports of a serious, sometimes lethal colitis, characterized by the formation of pseudo-membranous plaques. The cause was identified as Clostridium Difficile in 1978.  Allergy - An abnormal reaction by the body to certain substances, including pollen, dust, certain foods and drugs, fur, moulds, etc. Normally all foreign substances (antigens) entering the body are destroyed by antibodies. Allergic people, however, become hypersensitive to certain antigens (called allergens), so that whenever they are encountered in future they stimulate not only the normal antibody reaction but also the abnormal symptoms of the allergy, such as sneezing and skin rashes. Allergic conditions include hay fever, some forms of asthma and dermatitis, and urticaria. Treatment includes the use of antihistamines and corticosteroids and desensitization. Athlete's Foot is a skin condition caused by a fungus, that typically occurs between the toes. This picture is the classic condition, and very common. It is also at a stage where it is being restrained, not cured, only by being kept reasonably clean. WE HAVE A CURE. PILES - Hemroids and their symptoms are one of the most common afflictions in the Western world. In fact, hemroids can occur at any age and can affect both women and men. Because the presence of hemorrhoidal tissue is normal - it acts as a compressible lining which allows the anus to close completely. Unfortunately, hemroids tend to get worse over time, and disease should be treated as soon as it occurs. TICK - A widely distributed parasitic arachnid - related to Spiders and Scorpions, that sucks the blood of mammals, reptiles and birds, and may transmit such diseases as Typhus, Lymes Disease and Relapsing Fever. Its round body can be as small as a millimeter, or up to 30 mm long, with eight bristly legs. After feeding, the adults drop off the host and lay eggs on the ground. The larvae attach themselves to a suitable victim, feed, then drop off and molt into nymphs, which repeat the procedure. They have been compared to being similar to the Mite. An insect is a six legged creature, but all of this sized organisms once came from the same ancestor.
MALARIA - A serious, acute and chronic relapsing infection in humans, characterized by periodic attacks of chills and fever, anemia, enlargement of the spleen - splenomegaly, and often fatal complications. Malaria also is found in apes, monkeys, rats, birds, and reptiles. It is caused by various species of protozoa, a one-celled organism - called Sporozoans, that belong to the genus Plasmodium. These parasites are transmitted to humans by the bite of various species of mosquitoes belonging to the genus Anopheles . Worms, some say, have been around in one form or shape for about 600 million years. We actually share some DNA with all worms.
